New Report Addresses Concerns About Glass Fibers

Home – Single Post

NAIMA released a new report addressing concerns raised by building occupants and trades about glass fibers in HVAC ducts. The report details the results of studies conducted over 35 years that show that fiberglass duct liners and fiberglass board exhibit little to no fiber erosion on surfaces in typical HVAC ducts.

The summation of available research studies dispels myths about some of the most commonly referenced concerns regarding airborne glass fibers, including:

  • Fiber erosion with age or high airflow levels
  • The potential for adverse health effects with exposure to airborne glass fibers within indoor environments
  • Exposure to building occupants from synthetic vitreous fibers used in air handling systems
  • Carcinogenicity risk for humans exposed to glass fibers
